Code Breakers

Code Breakers

This was the central site for the U.K’s codebreakers during World War 2. It was run by the Government Code And Cypher School (GC&CS) which was code named the Golf Cheese And Chess Society. The site was code named Station X because it was the 10th code breaking facility to be opened – 10 in Roman numerals = X
This site was also where Alan Turing made the Bombe, which was the worlds first programmable and reprogrammable computer. Its main function was to decipher Nazi Enigma messages.
